Sex Addicts or Pornography Addiction Help

Beliefs of Sex Addicts

  • I am basically a bad, unworthy person.
  • No one would love me as I am.
  • My needs are never going to be met if I have to depend on others.
  • Sex is my most important need.

Shame is the source of an addict's greatest pain. We believe that we are less than and unlovable. If you grew up in a less-than-nurturing environment, it's easy to see how you might interpret your needs going unmet as an indicator that you are unworthy. As addiction consumes you, the guilt and shame breaks can lead you to the brink. Sex, drugs, alcohol, money, and relationships are temporary fixes to a more significant, insidious problem. Entering into recovery is the only solution.

Beliefs of Sex Addicts in recovery
  • I am lovable.
  • I am valuable and all humans are of equal value.
  • I can count on others and have a healthy relationship that is characterized by interdependence.
  • Sex is an important need and having a healthy, respectful relationship with myself and a partner is a valuable part of life.

Deciding to enter recovery is a hard one. You have to let go of your defenses and ask for help. Knowing that someone will accept you as your unique self can feel scary. It's okay to be yourself. You can expect respect, kindness, compassion, and empathy in my office. I understand what it means to be a person in long-term recovery. You will get there - one step at a time.

I provide individual online therapy for sex/porn addiction. I can help you identify a plan of action to address your out-of-control behaviors. We will work together to understand your pattern of behaviors and root causes and address neglected areas of your life so you can move toward a life worth living.

Group therapy options are available as well. Most people thrive in group therapy. It helps to be in a space with other men. Group can help you come out of denial and into a community where you can be transparent and accepted. We worked from a task-based model, allowing time for personal reflection and group feedback.
